Woman found fatally shot in East Oakland overnight
A female victim was shot and killed in East Oakland early Thursday morning, according to police. Officers were called to the area of International Boulevard between 20th and 21st avenues at about 2 a.m. to investigate reports of a shooting. The Oaklandside has learned that the city of Oakland quietly investigated how former Oakland police chief LeRonne Armstrong and his immediate successor Darren Allison handled explosive allegations of perjury and bribery by an OPD homicide detective. The city’s investigation, carried out by the Police Commission’s Community Police Review Agency and an outside law firm, found that Armstrong and Allison failed to ensure OPD’s internal affairs division rigorously and fairly examined the accusations against the detective. Investigators concluded Armstrong and Allison both fell short in their authorities and responsibilities as commanding officers.

Santa Rosa’s Cultural Heritage Board Sees Resignations Over Increased Fees
The volunteer chairman of Santa Rosa’s Cultural Heritage Board resigned due to concerns over sharply increased fees for work in historic districts. Four other board members also stepped down in solidarity. The fee increases, some up to one-thousand-percent, alarmed board members, hindering preservation efforts. A previous fee for a major renovation would have been about $2,100, but the new fee schedule would increase that to about $20-thousand. However, city officials claim the fees haven’t been fully implemented and are working to address the issue. City of Santa Rosa Council member Chris Rogers acknowledged the miscommunication and assured the public that it’s being fixed.
