WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A day of heavy rain and storms may help drought stricken areas. Dry ground conditions led to excessive runoff and flash flooding in the Triad Saturday evening in Guilford County. Local creeks and streams began rising above their banks creating localized flooding in addition storms causing flash flooding of urban areas. Buffalo Creek at Pamona in Greensboro, rose to 11.57 feet and reached minor flooding levels before cresting. Creek levels in Guilford County dropped below action stage after 7 p.m. as the storms moved east toward the Triangle.
