Connecticut Families: 9-year-old singer-songwriter provides comfort when performing her special songs

GUILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A small girl with a big voice and an even larger heart. A 9-year-old singer-songwriter from Guilford is sparking emotion with her meaningful work.

She’s only 9-years-old, but Remy Adair can belt out a tune and play the piano like a pro.

“I was looking for an instrument to play with all of my free time,” she said, noting she’s had lessons since she was small.

Believe it or not, she writes all of the lyrics herself and they’re words that are deep and important.

“There’s an empty seat in his fire truck and an empty seat at the dinner table,” Adair said, describing a recent song inspired by a North Haven firefighter who lost his life several years ago.

She sings, “Some days are simply unfair with unanswered prayers.”

“When I’m starting to compose them and I hear the story of what happened, I get sad,” she said.

But when Adair performs her special songs for crowds, she sees music makes a difference.

Last week, she played Empty Seat at a gala for Our Community Hero’s , an organization that supports frontline workers.

“When I do the concert and when I’m done with all my songs, I feel happy for what I did because I feel like I make the person that happened to, happy,” Adair said.

Adair is also a regular kid who loves soccer, watching movies and yes, all things Taylor Swift.

She has dreams of becoming famous but she always wants to stay close to home and sing about the stories that matter to the people right here in Connecticut.

“It’s really fun to do and the meaning of it brings me to my heart,” she said.

Adair is performing at Guilford Porchfest on Sept. 7 and then the Durham Fair on Sept. 28.
