Eckerd Receives AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky.- The Eckerd volleyball team has been recognized by the United State Marine Corps (USMC) and American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as a recipient of the annual Team Academic Excellence Award, released by the organization. The award, founded in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale. More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs received the award this season. Former White Hall High School and Arkansas State University standout Tyler Zuber has been called up to the Tampa Bay Rays' major-league roster. Zuber, 29, is listed on the Rays' active roster after spending time with the Rays' AAA team, the Durham (N.C.) Bulls. Zuber went 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA and made 4 saves in 18 games in Durham. He also allowed 6 earned runs on 16 hits in 21 2/3 innings.
