Two South Mississippi kitchens that failed their inspections earlier in July got another failing grade when the inspector returned.

Sai Kitchen at 63 Hardy Court Shopping Center, Gulfport, had a follow-up inspection July 30 for a permit renewal after failing the inspection on July 17. It again received a C.

    It was cited for:

    ▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat offense

    ▪ Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible, repeat offense

    ▪ Sewage waste water not properly disposed

    Corrected during the inspection was:

    ▪ Certified manager, which is required for kitchens to ensure food safety practices are followed.

This is the third C since October and dating back to 2019.

Pizza Inn , 530 Central Avenue West, Wiggins, had a permit follow-up inspections July 25 after a failing inspection on July 16.

It was cited with four violations:

    ▪ No certified manager

    ▪ Food contact surface not cleaned and sanitized, a repeat offense

    ▪ Improper cold holding temperatures, repeat

    ▪ Last inspection result not posted

The restaurant has had two Cs dating back to 2022.

Subway , 8837 Lorraine Road, Gulfport, was inspected July 22 following a complaint. The restaurant was cited for:

    ▪ No person in charge present who demonstrates knowledge and performs duty.

A corrective follow-up inspection the following day showed the violation was corrected and the restaurant scored a B.

This is the first C dating back to 2021.

Circle K Store , 10010 U.S. 49, Gulfport, was inspected July 23 for a permit renewal. It was cited for:

    ▪ No certified manager.

These issues were corrected during the inspection:

    ▪ Improper eating, tasting, drinking or tobacco use

    ▪ Inadequate hand washing facilities supplied and accessible.

A follow-up inspection on August 1 showed no violations and the kitchen received a B.

This was the third C dating back to 2016, with the prior Cs coming in 2023 and 2016.

Restaurants and kitchens in Mississippi are rated “A” if they pass the health department inspection, “B” if all violations are corrected during the inspection and “C” if the violations are critical.

The health inspection grade must be displayed in all restaurants, in kitchens such as school cafeterias, day care centers, and cafes and bars where food is made and sold.

The vast majority of restaurants and kitchens in District IX pass their inspections.

In July, 286 kitchens in South Mississippi scored a A with no violations, 66 a B and 10 failed their inspection with a C.
