    Comedian Tommy Davidson speaks at COSA 50th Anniversary Luncheon

    Montgomery, AL- Last week, The Council on Substance Abuse- NCADD 50 th Anniversary Luncheon took place last week at the RSA Activity Center.

    COSA Executive Director Shereda Finch expressed thanks and appreciation to supporters, staff, and attendees. “Fifty years is a testament to our dedication to alcohol and substance abuse” Finch said.  “I have an awesome team. It takes passion, commitment, love, and hope for our staff to do the work that they do.”

    The Prevention Services Team gave a presentation on substance abuse awareness and education. COSA currently offers prevention support services and works with school systems in Montgomery, Elmore, Lowndes, Autauga, Dallas, Perry and Wilcox counties.

    Comedian and Actor Tommy Davidson was the guest speaker for the luncheon. He shared his story on He shared his story of battling with substance abuse and his road to recovery. He also shared his childhood experiences and how his birth mother abandoned him as a baby.

    Tommy’s exceptional range—from standup comedy and acting to music—have earned him a reputation as an extraordinary performer. Best known as one of the stars of the hit television show In Living Color, Tommy’s visibility has allowed him to become a household name known for his innovative talent.

    For over 50 years, COSA has provided alcohol and substance misuse, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and recovery support programs and services across the state of Alabama. As a non-profit organization, COSA receives county, state and federal grants and contracts to implement its various program andservices.

    COSA is a private 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1973 to promote the understanding that alcoholism and other drug dependence are preventable and treatable diseases. The organization’s mission is to “Reduce the incidence and prevalence of the disease of alcoholism, other drug addiction diseases and related problems.”
