An Experience for Everyone at Montgomery Whitewater

Montgomery Whitewater, one of Montgomery’s newest attractions located right outside of Maxwell Air Force Base, is a world class outdoor venue rooted in adventure, outdoor lifestyle, and shared experiences.

Gem Curtis, the Assistant Manager for Guest Services, and Jessica Carpenter, the Guest Services Team Lead, both love the experience of working at this new and exciting attraction in the capital city.

“I saw Montgomery Whitewater as an up-and-coming business with potential,” Gem said. “I saw it was something new that we haven’t had here before, and that’s something I wanted to be a part of. I look forward to continuing to see it grow.”

For Jessica, who was born and raised in Montgomery, this attraction was unlike anything she’d ever seen growing up here.

“This is something completely different than what we’re used to seeing here – something fun and exciting to bring about new experiences for the city,” she said.

A question the staff often gets is: “what is Montgomery Whitewater?” According to Gem, Montgomery Whitewater is an outdoor recreational waterpark. Unlike a typical waterpark that many people think of, this facility does not have water slides. It consists of two man-made channels to raft or kayak. The experience can be compared to being on a river but with increased rapids to compete against.

Individuals interested in participating in water rafting or kayaking do not have to have experience or know how to swim. Since it is a controlled environment, the Montgomery Whitewater team takes all the necessary precautions to ensure participants have a safe and fun experience.

“We take safety very seriously here. It’s a controlled environment, so we have safety gear for you,” Jessica explained. “All trips also come with a raft guide who will show you what to do and how to do it.”

A first-time visitor can expect to first see the outdoor ambience upon arrival. The staff will then greet you to explain the rafting process and procedures. Those who are routine kayakers can also bring their own kayaks to utilize in the water.

The age range starts at 8 years old for water activities. Parking and admission to the facility are free. The current offseason cost is $39 for ages 11 and up to raft or kayak and $29 for ages 8-10. During peak season, the cost is $49 for ages 11 and up and $39 for ages 8-10. For kayakers who bring their own equipment, the cost is $25. Rafting and kayaking are both day passes, so an individual can utilize their pass throughout the day.

For those interested in attractions outside of the water, Montgomery Whitewater also houses a retail store, restaurant, and bar as well as seasonal events.

Montgomery Whitewater had several events last fall, including a youth bike race and the “Get Down” concert series. The facility also hosted its inaugural “Cousin Eddy’s 5K and Polar Plunge” in December.

“We try to have seasonal events every season, so this is just the start of what’s going on for 2024,” Jessica said.

As a first-time rafter, Gem encourages anyone and everyone to step outside of their comfort zone and give Montgomery Whitewater a try. Even if you’re not a rafter, the team welcomes you to hang out on the patio and try Eddy’s Restaurant.

“I want to emphasize that this is an experience for anyone. Anyone can do this. It’s not toward any specific demographic of people; this is literally for anyone who is willing and able,” she said.

The world-class venue also has future plans for expansion to include more attractions within the facility. For more information, visit www.montgomerywhitewater.com or follow Montgomery Whitewater on Facebook and Instagram.
