Daniels on the move for Congress

Montgomery, AL- Alabama House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels is on the move in his race for the state’s Second Congressional district.

The Bullock County native has been engaging throughout the district.

In Montgomery County, Daniels participated in the Turkey Day Classic, Christmas, and Lacey-Boyd New Year’s Day Parades. He has also visited local churches. While in Russell County, Daniels was the guest speaker for an Emancipation Proclamation program in Phenix City. In addition, small business owners and residents in Conecuh and Mobile Counties have had an opportunity to interact with Daniels.

Many of Daniels’ efforts in the state legislature have received bipartisan support. Most of his bills passed have had a republican sponsor.

In November, Daniels’ proposed bill to cut the state’s 5% income tax on overtime pay was signed by Gov. Kay Ivey. The tax cut went into effect on January 1.

According to a recent interview with a local media outlet, Daniels plans to bring similar efforts to Capitol Hill. He said that one of the things that he would like to do is take that same strategy and same piece of legislation and look at the numbers to reduce the tax burden for workers on their federal taxes.

Early in his career, Daniels worked as an elementary school teacher. His previous experience in D.C. includes serving as chairman of the National Education Association Student Program.

In the upcoming state legislative session, Daniels will sponsor a bill to give employers a tax credit if they supply or help workers pay for childcare. As a father and small business owner, Daniels strongly believes that this endeavor is pro-business and pro-employee.

Daniels will be one of a 11 Democrats on the March 5 ballot vying for the newly drawn Congressional district that includes part of Mobile and Clarke Counties; Washington, Monroe, Conecuh, Butler, Crenshaw, Pike, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Russell, and Barbour Counties.

A lawmaker since 2014 and Minority Leader since 2017, Daniels received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from Alabama A&M University.
