Trooper shoots, kills man charging with harpoon
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - An armed man died on South Kasilof Beach in the Kenai Peninsula on Monday after an officer-involved shooting. Washington State family sentenced for violating Indian Arts and Crafts Act
FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) - The final two defendants in the case surrounding the violation of the Indian Arts and Crafts act have been sentenced. The Indian Arts and Crafts Act “is intended to rid the Alaska Native and Indian arts and crafts marketplace of fakes and counterfeits, in order to protect the economic livelihoods and cultural heritage of Alaska Native and Indian artists and craftspeople and their tribes and villages, as well as the buying public,” said Meridith Stanton, the Indian Arts and Crafts Board Director.

Failure to use carb heat causes accident
The pilot reported that, while in cruise flight at about 4,000 feet MSL, he advanced the throttle to initiate a climb, but the engine began to lose power. In an effort to regain power, he further advanced the throttle and propeller levers and switched the fuel selector to the left tank to no avail.

NOAA Fisheries has received a request from the City and Borough of Sitka for authorization to take marine mammals incidental to the Gary Paxton Industrial Park Vessel Haulout Project in Sawmill Cove in Sitka, Alaska. NOAA Fisheries is requesting comments on its proposal to issue an incidental harassment authorization to incidentally take marine mammals during the specified activities. NOAA Fisheries is also requesting comments on a possible one-time, 1-year renewal that could be issued under certain circumstances and if all requirements are met, as described in Request for Public Comments at the end of this notice. NOAA Fisheries will consider public comments prior to making any final decision on the issuance of the requested MMPA authorization and agency responses will be summarized in the final notice of our decision.

Dutch Harbor Coast Guard station upgrades to Marine Safety Unit, welcomes new crew
Dutch Harbor’s U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment is now a Marine Safety Unit. At a June 24 ceremony, the station welcomed a new crew and was formally redesignated. Coast Guard personnel said the ceremony was an opportunity to make the transition from detachment to unit official for the community. The station was technically upgraded earlier this year, when Lt. Tyler Justus was named commanding officer.
