A new bulkhead encircles the updated Cordova Small Boat Harbor. The Cordova Small Boat Harbor is opening for business upon completion of a two-year, $40 million renovation and upgrade. Turnagain (formerly Turnagain Marine Construction) executed the design-build contract to replace the old harbor, significantly expanding its capacity to accommodate 727 vessels and making it one of Alaska’s largest single-basin harbors.

Bucky Dent, named because of a vertical indentation in his muzzle, has not claimed a Fat Bear Week title, but he remains among the more popular bears featured on the cameras.

Fire department rescues two hikers in back-to-back calls on Saturday
Sitka Fire Department carried out two back-to-back rescues over the weekend. Around 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, the department received a call from an injured hiker on Harbor Mountain. Assistant Fire Chief David Johnson said the woman fell and hurt her leg, and was having difficulty walking. Over 20 first responders hiked in to help her, and carried her down the mountain in a litter.
