Iowa State Fair Saying Goodbye to Popular Fair Stand
Iowa has one of the best state fairs in the country as thousands of people from around the state plan a state fair trip. Some people plan to enjoy the fair for an afternoon and others plan to enjoy the fair for multiple days in a row. This year there will be over 80 new foods for you to try at the fair so be sure to show up hungry and ready to try as many different foods as possible.
Transgender woman filing suit after state refused Medicaid coverage for reassignment surgery
AMES, Iowa — Sondra Wilson claims that the state denied her Medicaid coverage for her gender reassignment surgery. Wilson doesn’t have a law degree, but is representing herself in this case. She said she reached out to about 50 different law firms across the state and couldn’t afford any of the quotes she was given.
Audubon County Hwy M66/100th Street Construction Closure
(Audubon) The Audubon County Road Department, starting on Tuesday, July 23, the intersection of County Highway M66 (Bluebird Ave.) and 100th St. will be closed to through traffic for paving construction for approximately four to six weeks, weather permitting. Residents living along 100th St. will have access from the east.
RAGBRAI to Make Way Through Greenfield Tomorrow
The biggest bicycling event for the state of Iowa is underway. Tomorrow, the bicyclists taking part in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) will make their way through Adair County, with Greenfield being the midday stop. The route through Greenfield has changed since the city was originally chosen as a stop, allowing bicyclists to tour through areas that were in the path of the May 21st tornado that devastated a mile long stretch of the town in a minute.
Individual Stats Leader for Chargers Softball
We take a look at individual leaders in the main statistics for AC/GC Chargers softball. Reagan Carney led the team in hits with 29 and RBI’s with 25. Mersadez Richter reached on error the most at four times, and Carney also led in total bases with 43. Richter led in runs with 25, while Jacie Baker led in stolen bases and stolen base attempts, reaching on three of four attempts.
Jefferson Matters Hoping for Better Than 2019 Semi-Finalist for Great American Main Street Award
One organization in Jefferson is moving forward with an application that would signify a high achievement. Jefferson Matters is once again applying to be a Great American Main Street Award (GAMSA), which is given to main street communities across the country that show their excellence in comprehensive preservation-based commercial district revitalization. Jefferson Matters Executive Director Matt Wetrich says in 2019 they were a semi-finalist, but they have their sights set higher this year.
Greene County Supervisors Will Meet Tomorrow Morning
The Greene County Board of Supervisors will meet today. The Board will consider for approval the 2024-25 renewal of the Iowa Communities Assurance Pool (ICAP), the 2024 fiscal year county report of the substance abuse prevention grant from New Opportunities, and the semi-annual quarterly investment report from the county treasurer.

Two Men Arrested on Assault Charges in Red Oak
(Red Oak) The Red Oak Police Department reports two arrests. Police arrested 34-year-old Kristopher Carl Friesenhahn of Red Oak on Sunday afternoon in the 800 block of N. 2nd Street on a charge of Simple Assault. Officers transported Friesenhahn to the Montgomery County Jail and held him on a $300 bond.

EMERSON — For Brian Clarke, waterslides are a must-do on RAGBRAI. "You should always do the slip and slides whenever you see one," said the 35-year-old Iowa City cyclist who is riding in his sixth RAGBRAI this year. Clarke, who stood akimbo feet away from the inflatable palm tree waterslide, was drenched, trying to catch his breath from running at top speed and flinging his body on the slide where he was met by the rush of swashing water.
