John Deere cuts 67 workers from its Johnston finance operation
Deere & Co. cuts this week in Iowa climbed to 170 workers in Johnston, Dubuque and Waterloo, after the Illinois manufacturer of iconic tractors and combines announced it's trimming its salaried workforce. The Moline ag giant notified Iowa Workforce Development Thursday it's cutting 67 employees at John Deere Financial in Johnston. Sonepar to Acquire Echo Electric Supply
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Sonepar announced Wednesday that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Echo Electric Supply Company. Family-owned and operated since 1950, Echo Electric supplies electrical parts, equipment and services to contractors in the industrial, commercial and residential markets and ranked in the top 30 of Electrical Wholesaling’s 2024 list of the largest electrical distributors in North America. Operating in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota and Missouri, Echo Electric will join Sonepar with 23 branch locations and more than 600 associates.
West Nile Has Been Found in Iowa Mosquitoes
The good news is that at the time of writing, no humans in Iowa have yet tested positive for the West Nile virus. Mosquitos on the other hand have been found containing the virus in central Iowa. According to KCRG, mosquitoes were trapped at a park in West Ames sometime in mid-July. The park where these mosquitoes were found is sprayed or fogged every Wednesday night. Some of these mosquitoes contained the West Nile virus.
