Picture the Greenville Convention Center. Now, picture it with ~60 bowling lanes built inside.

In 2028, thanks to a lot of help and planning from Visit Greenville , that vision will become a reality with the US Bowling Congress (USBC) Open Championships taking place right here in Greenville.

    What are the Open Championships?

The annual tournament is headed by the USBC, aka the national governing body for bowling. The world’s largest participatory sporting event, the championships bring together some of the nation’s top bowlers to compete for a prize fund that exceeds $5 million.

    Fast facts

    • What | The largest event ever hosted in Greenville, and the first time the Open Championship has ever been hosted in the Carolinas
When | March through July, 2028
    • Where | Greenville Convention Center
    • Who | The championship is open to all bowlers with a USBC adult membership + is divided into three divisions: Classified, Standard, and Regular, dependent on a bowler’s averages.

    By the numbers

    • ~140 | The number of days that each tournament runs
    • 50,000 | The number of bowlers expected at Greenville’s tournament
    • $70+ million | The projected economic impact for Greenville as host of the event
    • 60,000 | The estimated number of rooms that will be occupied by guests due to the tournament
    • ~95 | How many jobs the tournament being in town will create

    How will it impact me?

    • Volunteer | Once we get closer to the date, there will be a call for volunteers + paid positions.
    • Traffic | Since the tournament will be at the convention center and not all the bowlers will be in town at once , you should be able to make it to your destination on time with no problems.
    • Attending | In addition to building lanes, the convention center will also build spectator seating so you can witness the fun in-person.
