Greenfield Man Sentenced to 21 Years for Child Molestation After Guilty Plea
A Greenfield man has been sentenced to 21 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to charges of child molestation, as reported in a news release from the Hancock County Prosecutor’s Office. James Edward Johnson, 71, entered into a plea agreement in July 2024, and received his sentence on August 8 at Hancock Superior Court. Following his prison tenure, Johnson must serve six years of sex offender-specific probation and will face a lifetime requirement to register as a sex offender.
Greenwood Christian Joins Indiana Crossroads Conference in 2025
Greenwood Christian Academy will join the Indiana Crossroads Conference (ICC) in July 2025, amid significant conference realignment in Johnson County. This new alignment includes seven small private schools, such as Cardinal Ritter and Covenant Christian. The move comes as Beech Grove, Monrovia, and others leave for the newly formed Hoosier Legends Conference. GCA's entry into the ICC places its football program in a competitive environment, especially with teams like Indy Lutheran, recent state champions. Athletic director Shon Cottle acknowledges the challenges ahead but sees the overall competitive field as beneficial for the program.

Greensburg Boys Soccer Poured in Five Goals Against the Knights
The Greensburg boys soccer team poured in five goals Thursday night in their conference opening match at South Dearborn. A hat trick by senior Cy Miller included the final two goals of the night in the Pirates’ 5-4 win over the Knights. Miller scored early on an assist by junior Ethan Smith. Smith found the net moments later to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead. The Knights would level the score before halftime on a pair of goals. Early in the second, the Knights struck again to take a 3-2 lead. Smith scored again, this time assisted by sophomore Jacoby Miller. Cy Miller scored twice more to put the Pirates ahead for good. Cy Miller’s seventh career hat trick ties Grayson Newhart’s all-time career record. He is also the third Pirates soccer player ever to score 100 points in his career, joining Newhart and Tyler Burcham. The Pirates (1-1, 1-0 EIAC) are back on the pitch Saturday at Union County.
