New Home for the Drag Queen Story Hour in Reno

Same Fairy Tales - Different Location

After the Drag Queen Story Hour was cancelled at the Washoe County Library, it was able to find a new home at Our Center at 1745 S Wells Ave, Reno.

The program was originally hosted by the Washoe County Library. Unfortunately, it was suspended by the Washoe County Manager, Eric Brown’s office, after a staff member filed a workplace safety complaint alleging a protester injured them.

The organization that provides support and advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community in Reno, Our Center, is making a place within its doors for the new Drag Queen Hour.

For the remainder of this year and into 2025, Our Center is pairing up with other community organizations such as Northern Nevada Pride to put on a new series of drag queen story hour events.

"When the county manager made the decision to cancel the drag story hours at the library, we wanted to make sure that Drag Story Hour continued because we value the program," said Stacey Spain, executive director of Our Center. - RGJ, Jaedyn Young

Ginger Devine, previous drag queen for library events, will do a story hour during the Northern Nevada Pride event at the Stage on First Street, near Stevenson Street, at 11 a.m. Sept. 7.
