“Piece by Piece You Build Your Community!” was the theme for the Faith in Action event held April 30 at The Hub in Hackensack.

Thirty-eight Faith in Action volunteers plus staff and friends gathered to enjoy a speaker, games, and a soup and salad bar lunch with strawberry shortcake for dessert, catered by Jeannette Dudley.

Guest speaker Dee Oliver of Walker gave a presentation on “Self Compassion: The Missing Piece,” and how we need to be as compassionate with ourselves as we are to the people we help.

Volunteer Coordinator Larellyn Micheau and Executive Director Theresa Eclov provided information on program updates and Board member Dale Probasco shared about the new Strategic Planning process.

“The training was excellent with a good message. It was creatively planned, and the food was superb,” stsated Board member Trish Miller.

Another volunteer commented, “Volunteering this past year is something akin to adopting a rescue in that the act itself gives more to the rescuer than to the rescue. I have heard so many interesting stories and gained new respect and deeper understanding of the aging population in this country and in myself. I am in awe of the incredible strength and fortitude of the people I have the privilege to serve.”

Volunteers often feel that what they do is not significant, but when all the hours and miles are added up their work becomes an incredible part of what keeps our communities together.

In 2023 Faith in Action volunteers showed just how far they go to reach across their communities in providing services for people throughout Cass County. Volunteers gave over 6,000 hours of service and drove over 106,725 miles, filling an average of 210 requests per month, to help their neighbors throughout Cass County. Volunteers are truly the hearts and hands of Faith in Action for Cass County.

Faith in Action for Cass County is a volunteer, nonprofit organization that connects local volunteers with requests for transportation, respite and friendly visiting, chore and homemaking services, basic home repair and building railings and ramps. Volunteers chose when and how they would like to be of service and new volunteers are always needed. It’s easy to make requests or become a volunteer.
