Hagerstown native appears on Love Island USA reality show

Seven years ago, long before I arrived, the Palladium-Item did a story on Jalen Oliver, then a senior at Hagerstown High School being recruited to play football and basketball in college.

Fast forward to today, and Oliver has appeared on television screens across the nation as one of the Casa Amor residents on season six of Love Island USA, airing on Peacock.

Love Island USA is a reality show focused on men and women coupling up and staying coupled up (not necessarily with the same partner) throughout the season, resulting in them leaving the island with a cash prize and/or their true love.

Oliver's vacation on the island was a short one, but he learned not to take anything for granted, especially after surviving through 13 years of hospital visits with a brain cyst.

His eyes were open to the point that he may even see a career in reality television if everything works out.

🍽 Anyone a fan of brunches?

This past weekend, a friend of mine wasn't feeling well, so I left to pay him a visit as his girlfriend also did.

While there, we enjoyed the Euro and Copa America championships (I'm a big soccer fan by the way; Spain and Argentina won), and I got to enjoy a delicious brunch put together by his mom.

It included a homemade breakfast casserole, store-bought frittatas (big fan of those after my New York trip) and a variety of pastries, among other items.

Thank you for taking the time to read through today's newsletter. I always appreciate any story tips you may have to better serve you and the city of Richmond. My email address is eweaver@gannett.com and you can follow me on X (@evan_weaver7).
