HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — A new exhibit has opened in Hagerstown about the tattoo.

It follows the evolution of the tattoo from the 1960s to today.

Metro fare increase to take effect this weekend

Kellie Mele, director of education at the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, says that nearly 40 percent of Americans have a tattoo. Half of that group has more than one.

“You can have artwork commissioned right on your body,” said Mele. “These tattoos go to the core of who people really are, and it might just open your mind a bit to tattoos and what it means to other people, even if you’re not a big fan of tattoos.”

There is no admission charge to see the exhibit, which runs until mid-October.
