HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The heat and humidity in Hagerstown has locals looking for a place to cool down — and many found the Cannon Coffee Shop on Public Square to be a pretty comfortable option.

Nicolette and her young son dropped in to — literally — chill.

“It’s been really hot out there, so if we’re not home in the pool we come in here to get iced coffee, smoothies. He really likes yogurt,” said Nicolette.

Another customer, Amber, took a break from her job with a downtown nonprofit to escape the heat on Friday.

“I have my iced coffee — I always have it iced. So, yup, and water. I’ll probably be inside the rest of the day,” Amber said.

Customers like Amber kept barista, Hannah Nance, busy behind the counter.

“Iced drinks are going quickly, so we try to keep up,” said Nance.

Cooling down in the coffee shop is Turgut, a Miami, Florida-based truck driver. Is he used to this weather here?

“I don’t like Miami heat, you know,” said Turgut. “It’s like this 2 months a year. But since I’m a truck driver I’m on the road. I think it was 105 degrees in the truck yesterday, but I’ve been to Arizona when it was 120!”
