OBITUARY: Dorothy Alise Smith

Dorothy Alise Smith, 91, of Hagerstown, Maryland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Doey’s House.
Born Thursday, Jan. 12, 1933 in Wadesboro. She was the daughter of the late Frank Harrington and the late Mary (Gathins) Harrington.
Dorothy graduated from Lilesville High School, where she was a cheerleader. In her early years, she was employed at Wade Mill in Wadesboro, and later with J.L. Jones Construction in Charlotte. In 1977 they relocated to Hagerstown, Maryland, where Dorothy enjoyed being a wife and mother. She was a member of Hagerstown Church (Formerly First Baptist Church) in Hagerstown. She loved gardening and flowers. Dorothy loved music and singing and sang in a trio with her sister and cousin.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Walter Jackson Smith Sr.; son, Walter Jackson Smith Jr. and wife Kimberly; sister, Ruby Sheppard; grandchildren, Grant J.B. Smith and wife Nicole, and Cole A.B. Smith and wife Lindsey; and great-granddaughter, Scarlett Rae Smith and pending the arrival of great-grandson, Reese Jackson Smith.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Bruce Harrington and Prentice Harrington; and a sister, Gladys Goodman.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at 1:30 p.m., at Rose Hill Cemetery, 600 S. Potomac St. Hagerstown, MD, with Pastor Joshua McClain officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doey’s House c/o Hospice of Washington County Hospice, 1710 Underpass Way, Suite 300, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD.
