Meritus Health opens multi-specialty practice at Valley Mall

Meritus Health opened a multi-speciality medical practice in the Valley Mall on July 1, including urgent care, a pediatrics after-hours clinic, sports medicine and physical therapy, according to the nonprofit healthcare organization.

"Meritus is always trying to bring great care closer and closer to the people who need it," Chief Strategy Officer David M. Lehr said in a Meritus news release. "Expanding our footprint to another major location will improve convenience for our patients. This addition advances our objective to bring high-quality healthcare services directly into communities where people live and work."

The practice is in part of the former Sears site at the mall, visible from the Halfway Boulevard side. The entrance is around the corner from the Dick's Sporting Goods exterior entry.

"We are thrilled to welcome Meritus Health as our newest tenant at Valley Mall," PREIT regional manager Julie Rohm said in the Meritus release. Valley Mall in Halfway is a PREIT property.

"Our focus on delivering innovative and thoughtful destinations to meet modern consumer demands includes providing services that meet their daily needs," Rohm said. "In a market that is evolving at the pace Hagerstown is, we are pleased to enhance the one-stop-shop experience we provide with the addition of high-quality healthcare options."

The after-hours pediatric practice relocated to the mall from from Eastern Boulevard.

The mall practice adds to Meritus' urgent care and physical therapy sites, and the sports medicine practice is new, according to Meritus spokesperson Joseph Deinlein. Dr. Geoffrey Sanyi, who is leading the sports medicine practice, has seen Meritus Family Medicine patients before this practice opened.

The urgent care and after-hours pediatrics practices are open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. weekdays. Weekend hours are 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for urgent care and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. for the pediatrics practice.

Maleko Personnel opens its second East Coast branch ... in Hagerstown

Maleko Personnel opened a branch in the Foxshire Plaza at 1423 Dual Highway, Suite 3F, in June.

This is the California-based company's second East Coast branch, after opening one in Winchester, Va., in February, East Coast District Director Erica Scott said in a phone interview.

Maleko officials decided to open a branch in Hagerstown because one of its national clients opened a distribution center in the area, Scott said.

Maleko offers temporary and long-term staffing services, temp-to-hire and direct hire services, Scott said. The areas Maleko services include warehousing/distribution centers, skilled and unskilled labor, hospitality, manufacturing including food manufacturing, call centers, drivers, clerical, administrative assistants, and administrative jobs such as accounting positions.

Maleko has online job listings, but has physical offices to help people looking for work with the application process, to interview them and to review their skill sets and ask them specific questions, Scott said. Because Maleko works with warehousing, some of its clients are looking for help with difficult machinery including specific brands.

The physical offices also allow job candidates to come in for background checks and to be drug-screened, services that are free for the employees and employers, Scott said.

"We do the upfront screening on our own time as an extra assurance to the client," Scott said.

The Hagerstown branch is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. The company is on call 24/7 for its clients, she said.
