    How hot could it get for Hagerstown, Salisbury, Ocean City this week?

    Another heat wave has hit the Maryland area, with heat indices expected to be in the triple digits again on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

    A heat advisory is likely again on Tuesday for the Salisbury area, while the weather service has issued the more severe excessive heat warning for the Hagerstown area in Western Maryland for a second straight day.

    Not only will it be hot during the day, but the low temperatures are expected to be in the 70s through Wednesday night, according to the weather service's website.

    How hot could it get in the Hagerstown area?

    For the Hagerstown area, an excessive heat watch is issued when there is at least 50% confidence the heat index will reach 105 degrees within 40 hours, said meteorologist Jeremy Geiger with the Baltimore/Washington Forecast Office.

    The watch the weather service previously issued for Tuesday for the Hagerstown and Martinsburg, W.Va., areas was upgraded, on Monday afternoon, to an excessive heat warning. Heat indices on Tuesday are forecast to reach 105 to 108 degrees. The area under the warning includes Shepherdstown and Charles Town in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle.

    In nearby Franklin County, Pa., the execessive heat warning was in effect from noon Monday until 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the weather service's website. A heat advisory has been issued for that area for 8 p.m. Tuesday to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

    The low temperatures through Wednesday night are forecast to be in the low to mid-70s.

    How hot could it get for Salisbury, Ocean City?

    The heat index could reach 108, 109 degrees on Tuesday for the Salisbury area and western Worcester County, said meteorologist Jordan Pegram with the Wakefield, Va., Forecast Office.

    A heat advisory was in effect Monday for the Salisbury area, with the heat index expected to reach 105 degrees. With a hotter forecast on Tuesday, another heat advisory is likely, Pegram said Monday.

    The heat index for Ocean City is expected to be closer to 100 degrees, she said.

    The low temperatures through Wednesday night are forecast to be in the mid- to high 70s for the Salisbury area.

    When will Hagerstown, Salisbury see a break from this heat wave?

    The Hagerstown and Salisbury areas are expected to see a break from the excessive heat on Thursday, meteorologists said.

    A cold front is expected to come through so there's a chance of rain late Wednesday into Thursday for the Salisbury area, Pegram said. It will still be humid Thursday.

    The high temperature is expected to be 86 degrees Thursday for Salisbury.

    "Friday might actually be pretty nice" with highs in the mid 80s and lower humidity, Pegram said.

    The Hagerstown area might see a heat advisory Wednesday, but a relatively cooler period is expected to start Thursday, Geiger said.

    The forecast for Thursday and Friday includes highs in the mid 80s in the Hagerstown and Greencastle, Pa., areas, with highs in the mid to high 80s in Martinsburg, W.Va.
