    Broadway honors Hagerstown community theatre leader

    HAGERSTOWN, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The head of a community theatre program in Hagerstown is headed to Broadway this weekend to be honored for his work with young performers.

    Robbie Soto has been coaching talented kids on stage for the past decade. He will be saluted for enriching the community through innovative theatrical productions and educational programs. He said it’s “especially rewarding” to be able to work with the youth on stage.

    Hospice of Washington County values volunteer support for patients, staff

    “Seeing kids get the opportunity to finally do something they love to do,” Soto said. “That’s their outlet. Somebody who’s going to accept them, no matter who they are, what they are. I think it’s probably the most impactful thing you can do for kids and theatre’s just that place.”

    In New York this weekend Soto will be a panelist for a discussion of “community engagement and the transformative power of theatre.”
