KENDRICK - Crews continue to battle the Texas Fire, located east of Kendrick on the Latah/Nez Perce County line. According to a Sunday morning update from officials, the fire size is estimated at 1,575 acres and is 20% contained. The fire area grew by only 32 acres between Thursday and Saturday. No growth was reported between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

100 years agoThe Bonneville Cow Testing association held its first picnic this week in July 1924, with close to 300 dairymen, farmers and businessmen attending the event, held at the A.H. Beasley ranch nine miles south of Idaho Falls. “The picnic was a decided success and marked another step for Idaho toward its recognition as the premier dairying state of the country,” the Salt Lake Tribune reported. The program included addresses by A.H. Upham, president of the University of Idaho; E.G. Bennett, vice president of the Anderson Bros. Bank of Idaho Falls; D.P. Murray, district club leader among the boys and girls; and C.R. Richards, county agent of Teton County. M.B. Yeaman presided as chairman. Red Eye, owned by Carl Johnson of the Sunny Side dairy, won first place in butter-fat production with a record 175.3 pounds. Mary Pack won the milking contest while a yearling calf belonging to her 13-year-old daughter, Florence, won first place in the heifer contest.
