Mobile veterinary unit caters to underserved areas in Texas
The Community and Regional Engagement Service (CARES) mobile veterinary unit has officially launched at the Texas Tech University (TTU)’s School of Veterinary Medicine. The vehicle, custom-built and funded by donations from the Louise Bowers Slentz Foundation Fund and the Amber Fund, which both come from the Amarillo Area Foundation, enables the school to expand its initiatives in serving the region that has “generously supported it.”

A range of mid 80s to low 90s for us today, with Lubbock expecting about 88. Rain and thunderstorms from overnight clear out throughout the morning, with some slim chances of pop up showers or thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening.

Joey Chestnut did compete in a July 4th hot dog-eating competition after all, but not in the Coney Island contest that made him famous. Chestnut, the 16-time winner of Nathan's Famous Hot Dog Eating Contest, was officially banned from the annual event by Major League Eating in mid-June. Their beef? He had signed an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods, which makes plant-based proteins.

Texas Couple Homeless After Truck/Camper Fire Saturday Near Ottawa
You hear of vehicle fires, but, rarely, do you hear the story of the owners. On Saturday, a Texas couple lost their only home, a truck and camper, to a fire on westbound Interstate 80 between Utica and Ottawa. Wallace Fire Chief Chris Backos says they were summoned at about 12:45 Saturday afternoon to I-80 along with the Utica Fire Department. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the truck engulfed. It resulted in both vehicles destroyed and a $250,000 loss. No one, including pets were hurt and firefighters saved some belongings.

After filing for bankruptcy, a small Arby's franchisee is selling some locations and closing others. Miracle Restaurant Group LLC, a company based out of Louisiana has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
