An Alabama man was killed this week when his pickup truck veered off the road, struck a ditch and then a tree, state troopers said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred at approximately 7:55 p.m. Thursday, and claimed the life of a Haleyville, Alabama, man.

Don W. League, 77, was fatally injured when the 1990 Ford Ranger that he was driving left the roadway and struck a ditch.

After the initial impact, the Ford struck a fence, a culvert and a tree. League was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash occurred on Franklin County 6 near Franklin County 69, approximately 6 miles northeast of Haleyville, in Franklin County.
