Victim remains critical following Monday shooting
The victim of a Monday evening shooting remains in critical condition while his brother was charged with the crime, according to Halifax County Sheriff Tyree Davis. Davis said Detective B. Edmonson charged 47-year-old Steven Troy Wright with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury.
Man faces crack, resisting counts after suspicious vehicle call
A Roanoke Rapids man faces cocaine counts and a resisting charge following a suspicious vehicle call Monday evening. Major Anzell M. Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Corporal N. Estes responded to a call around 10:30 p.m. of a vehicle parked in the lot of a West Tenth Street business after hours.
Enfield area land added to top 15 NC industrial sites
Halifax County has been recognized for having one of the top industrial sites in the state, Economic Development Director Cathy Scott said today. The Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina in its SelectSite Readiness Program Report identified the Highway 301 Industrial Site in the Enfield area as one of 15 SelectSites for North Carolina. “This designation means the US 301 Industrial Site, located on US Highway 301 north of Enfield, will be targeted for major advanced manufacturing projects and receive increased development and marketing support from the state and EDPNC,” Scott said.
Man charged in June four-wheeler larceny
A Weldon man was served warrants Tuesday while in custody at the Halifax County Detention Center for the larceny of a four-wheeler at a residence near Airport Road in June. Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant T. Byers recovered the stolen four-wheeler and obtained warrants on Tizell Jazziz Powell, 23, for felony breaking and or entering and felony larceny of a motor vehicle, according to Major Anzell M. Harris.
