AAA: TN gas prices rise 6 cents
Gas prices across the state rose six cents, on average, ahead of Independence Day last week, before holding steady over the weekend. According to AAA, the Tennessee gas price average is now $3.16, which is 12 cents more expensive than one month ago and five cents more than one year ago. The average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline in Cocke County also increased according to AAA, going from $3.06 per gallon last week to a current average of $3.11 per gallon. ...

Tennessee collected $87.6 million in the first 12 months of their taxing sports betting handle
Last year, the Tennessee legislature made changes in their method of taxation for sports betting. Instead of their traditional nationwide levy on sports betting operators, Tennessee will offer taxation based on handle starting in the 2023-24 fiscal year. Twelve months later, the Tennessee Sports Wagering Council (SWC) reported $87.6 million in state taxes for the fiscal year they recently completed. Tennessee had a $342.2 million handle for June 2024 and collected $6.3 million worth of receipts. In total, that was $4.3 million more than they had in the fiscal year of 2022-23. SWC Director of Engagement David A. Smith had this to say.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The man prosecutors claim organized the death of Memphis rapper Young Dolph will remain out on bond after being arrested in Mississippi. Hernandez Govan appeared in court at 201 Poplar on Friday, July 12. Govan was arrested Sunday, June 23 by the Southaven Police Department for driving on a suspended license, having an improperly mounted license tag and stalking charges.
