Adirondack Experience to Host Northville-Placid Trail 100th Anniversary Event
In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Northville-Placid Trail (NPT), a 138-mile route that transverses the Adirondack Park, those who have hiked any part of the trail are invited to put on their best hiking apparel for a celebration and a once-in-100-years photo (with a goal of 138 hikers to mark all 138 miles) at the Adirondack Experience (ADKX, formerly known as the Adirondack Museum), which is located near the halfway mark of the trail in Hamilton County.

Senior citizens gather for Poetry Contest Gala
Long Lake, NY- Senior citizens gathered at the CVW Long Lake Public Library for the Bob Tice Memorial Arbor Day Poetry Contest Gala on May 8. The Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the 16th annual contest this past spring. District Manager Caitlin Stewart re-named the contest in remembrance of the late Bob Tice.
Buck Mountain Fire Tower Trail
This spectacular view of the Whitney Wilderness Area and Little Tupper Lake comes to you courtesy of a very good boy. In 1933 two veterans of Byrd’s 1929 South Pole expedition, Jack Bursey and his lead sled dog St. Lunaire, hauled the bones of a 60-foot fire tower up Buck Mountain, in Long Lake. Now the tower has been rehabbed, and an easement donated by Cedar Heights Timber allows a new generation to follow in St. Lunaire’s pawprints.
