A woman was struck by a semi tractor-trailer on I-71 early Saturday morning, the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office said.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., deputies responded to the northbound lanes of I-71 near the Norwood Lateral and Kennedy Road.

Investigators found that a semi tractor-trailer was driving north on I-71 when it struck a woman who was walking in the lanes of the interstate.

The sheriff's office did not reveal the identity of the woman. They said she was wearing all dark clothing, and the interstate had no lights in the area of the crash.

She was transported to UC Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office also said it's unknown where she entered the interstate, and no broken down cars were nearby.

All northbound lanes of I-71 were shut down for roughly four hours while deputies investigated.

The sheriff's office said the crash remains under investigation.
