Aglamesis Bros' to open new ice cream parlor in this Cincinnati suburb

Aglamesis Bros’ will open its first new parlor in decades in a Cincinnati suburb.

The historic Cincinnati ice cream and chocolate brand will open the new parlor in downtown Hamilton in late August or early September, third-generation president Randy Young told The Enquirer on Monday. The parlor will move into the Davis Building at 304 Main St.

Aglamesis had no plans to expand this year, Young said. The company opened a new chocolate production facility in Cincinnati's West End last year, and will add a factory outlet to the space within the next two years.

But Hamilton officials pitched the location to Young in January, hoping Aglamesis could replace Village Parlor, an ice cream shop that operated in the Main Street building for five years and chose not to renew its lease in December.

The space – a ready-to-move-in, old-fashioned ice cream parlor – sealed the deal, Young said.

"We walked through the site location... and it fit our personality," he said. "Everything about the parlor fit the Aglamesis image."

The Consortium for Ongoing Reinvestment Efforts , a nonprofit public-private partnership that drives revitalization in Hamilton's urban core, negotiated the building's rental agreement. Lauren Nelson, project manager with Hamilton’s economic development department who also serves on behalf of the consortium, helped to facilitate the partnership.

"The ice cream parlor in this historic building has that old-time, very traditional ice cream parlor feel to it, and we were looking for someone that we thought would be a great fit for that," she told The Enquirer. "Aglamesis, with their long tradition in Cincinnati and great products, came to mind as someone we'd love to have in Hamilton."

Renovations at the 1,670-square-foot ice cream parlor will be minimal. Aglamesis will only need to install candy cases and shelves for chocolates, and outfit the space with the company's signature branding and colors.

The Hamilton shop marks Aglamesis Bros' first new parlor since their Montgomery store, which opened in 1970.
