HAMILTON, NJ – The Hamilton Police Division will be the recipient of $1.4 to help defray the cost of a new roof for the division's headquarters. The funding, State Senator Linda Greenstein, Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Assemblywoman Tennille McCoy announced recently, comes from the state’s Fiscal Year 2025 budget.

Hamilton Mayor Jeff Martin and Hamilton Police Chief Kenneth DeBoskey joined the 14th Legislative District team at the Hamilton Township Police Headquarters to celebrate the announcement.

“A big thank you to Senator Greenstein, Assemblyman DeAngelo, and Assemblywoman McCoy for securing over $1 million towards the capital improvements of our Hamilton Township Police Headquarters,” Martin said, adding that the Township is moving to complete the project as quickly as possible. “These funds are needed to ensure our officers, employees, and all those who come to the building are provided a safe facility. It also helps to stabilize our property taxes by having the State pay for this necessary work instead.”

As reflected in an announcement following the check presentation, the Hamilton Police Headquarters faced an urgent issue as the roof began to leak, requiring police personnel to collect the water in buckets. By securing the funding, the announcement said, the legislators worked to ensure that the financial costs of the repair would not fall on the taxpayers of Hamilton.

"Securing the necessary funds for a new roof at our Hamilton Township Police Headquarters is not only about maintaining a structure; it is about ensuring the well-being of the valiant officers who serve our community," said Senator Greenstein (D-Mercer, Middlesex). “I heard accounts of rainwater being caught in buckets and the persistent concerns from our DPW Director regarding previous inadequate repairs. This allocation will ensure that the roof is properly redone, providing a durable solution that mitigates health hazards and supports our dedicated police force for many years to come.”

The announcement added that the funding also underscores the township’s and the state’s commitment to maintaining the important infrastructure needed to conduct law enforcement activities while ensuring the safety of Hamilton residents.

“We recognize the vital role that our law enforcement officers play in keeping our community safe, so it is only fair that we do everything we can to ensure we keep them safe,” said Assemblywoman McCoy (D-Mercer, Middlesex). “By providing this funding, we take a critical step towards literally providing a roof over the heads of those who protect Hamiltonians.”

Assemblyman Wayne DeAngel0 (D-Mercer, Middlesex) said that non one should have to work in a damp and dripping office worrying about mold or a collapsing roof.

“Our public servants deserve better, and I am dedicated to making sure they have the resources to stay focused on their job of keeping us safe."

Hamilton Police Chief DeBoskey also added his gratitude to the legislators.

"This has been a long-term issue with our building and we have been working with the Martin administration on finding solutions,” Deboskey said. “This funding will allow for much-needed repairs and will improve working conditions for my officers and civilian staff.”
