PHOTOS: Post 49 vs. Beaufort, Game 2

HAMLET — The second round of the Area 2 Conference playoffs was reset Tuesday.

What was a best-of-five game series now comes down to which team between No. 1 Hamlet and No. 2 Beaufort can win two of the next three games.

Post 49 suffered a 6-5 defeat to Post 99, ending its 13-game winning streak and evening the series at one game.

Trailing by five runs entering the bottom of the fifth, Hamlet rallied to score its final four runs and make a run at taking a two-game lead.

Austin Mooring recorded the team’s only run batted in on an RBI double to the corner in right during the fifth.

James Eason and Evan Hodges both had two hits, combining for half of Hamlet’s eight total hits.

Riley Brown (starter), Brady Fowler and Robbie Peed each collected innings on the mound for Hamlet.

Game three will be played Wednesday at East Carteret High School. Hamlet (20-5) and Beaufort (11-5) will begin play at 7 p.m.
