A new food pantry is opening in Mont Pleasant on Monday, July 29, 2024 at 12:30 p.m. at the Holy Name of Jesus Church, 1040 Pearl Street. The Daily Bread Food Pantry will celebrate its opening with a cookout at the church.

Helicopter crash kills pilot in Jefferson County
West Carthage, N.Y. -- A man died early Saturday morning after his private helicopter crashed in Jefferson County, troopers said. Around 11:16 a.m., state police responded to the area of 64 Liberty St. in the village of West Carthage for report of a helicopter crash, according to Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a spokesperson for the State Police.
31-year-old Central NY motorcyclist dies after motorcycle crash in North Country
Rutland, N.Y. — A 31-year-old man, who crashed and hit a metal culvert, died Friday in Jefferson County, troopers said. Adam L. Lyon, of Bridgeport in Madison County, was riding his green 2024 Kawasaki ZX14R southwest on County Route 49 in Rutland around 1:05 p.m. when he crashed on a curve, according to news release from state police.

Croghan Man Charged with Criminal Contempt
VILLAGE OF CROGHAN-A 29 year old Croghan man was arrested early Saturday morning following an alleged domestic dispute in the Village of Croghan that reportedly occurred on Friday. New York State Police from the Lowville Barracks charged Daniel P. Monnat with one count of Criminal Contempt in the 2nd Degree-Disobeying a Court Order, a Class A misdemeanor. Monnat’s arrest status was listed as “central arraignment” and the incident was pending investigation as of Saturday morning.
