Soldier On, a Western Massachusetts nonprofit, is the recipient of a $1 million grant to work with housing-insecure veterans. “Soldier On is acutely aware that this funding is the result of listening to the at-risk veterans and delivering services that meet their needs,” said Soldier On president and CEO Bruce Buckley, who added the funds will address a critical need.

Amherst power outage blamed on equipment
Just over 8,000 Amherst customers of Eversource found themselves without power for nearly two hours Saturday morning. Eversource spokesman Kyle Costa said an equipment issue in a substation in Amherst cut power to a total of 8,347 customers at about 6:16 a.m. However, he said distribution automation technology was able to reinstate power to nearly a quarter of those customers. Costa said 2,305 customers saw power restored within a minute or so. When the rest of the affected customers were not reconnected, personnel were sent to the substation to make repairs.
