Back in sports, 20 years ago: Indians take major league crown
CAPON BRIDGE — If fans were looking for a competitive series to occupy their time, the Hampshire County Little League championships were a much better place to turn than the NBA Finals. Both the minor league and the major league series went the full three games, as all four teams fought tooth and nail for the crown. In the major league division it was the Indians and the Cardinals that met up for a three-game series. The never-say-die Cardinals won the June 16 matchup at Capon Bridge, and the stage was set for a game three showdown. In the third and final game, the Indians’ pitching was just too much for the Cardinal hitting. The Indians, the winners of game one, took game three 5-0 to take home the major league title.

Man hospitalized after truck hits motorcycle
A Hampshire County man was critically injured Sunday evening when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by a truck. Andy Herriott was flown by helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital following the approximately 7:50 p.m. accident, which occurred on WV 28 north of Romney, according to the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office. Details of the accident were unavailable at press time.
Juveniles identified following vandalism in Capon Bridge
Capon Bridge last week was the site of a series of vandalism incidents that authorities said were perpetrated by juveniles. Just after 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Hampshire County First Alert posted on its Facebook page that vandals had placed items in the roadway on Route 50, including a tractor, which caused an accident near the Capon Bridge Library.
