App State’s Frontline to Farm In-Person Training Completes Another Successful Year
Appalachian State University’s Frontline to Farm program has been serving Veterans since 2020. To date, 78 participants have completed its in-person training. The program also provides online resources, as well as internships and scholarships for specialized training across the US – all focused on supporting veterans’ transition to farming and promoting sustainable farming practices that mitigate climate change, promote food security, and build community.

Amy Matthews slaps husband after he catches her cheating
31-year-old Amy Matthews was involved in a domestic altercation with her husband, Alex Matthews, at her Cindy Jo Court residence on June 29th. When officers arrived, they spoke with Alex, who claimed an argument occurred because he found out Amy was talking to another man. Alex informed officers that, after this, they both began arguing before it turned physical when Amy attempted to grab Alex’s phone. Amy proceeded to slap Alex multiple times on the leg while yelling, “he hit me.” Alex provided officers with footage of the incident that he recorded. Amy Matthews was then deemed the primary aggressor, and she was then taken into custody for domestic assault on July 3rd.

JC Salvation Army announce changes to services
The Salvation Army of Johnson City just announced changes to the services it provides. The organization is ending its day center and free dinner service and snack bags offered to the community. Salvation Army officials say the changes are due to safety, staffing, and funding, with a plan to shift those resources to the shelter. The Salvation Army provides a shelter for those in need of housing, with a capacity of 55, with officials saying the shelter is a part of the organization they need to focus on. The dinner and snack bag service is set to end on July 17. The Johnson City Salvation Army is also working on a veterans wing to the shelter, which would add 15 rooms for homeless military veterans.
