Man dies after being shot while driving in Hampton early Tuesday morning

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY)– A man is dead after being shot while driving in Hampton early Tuesday morning.

According to police, officers were called to the 100 block of Atlantic Ave at 12:15 a.m. for the report of shots fired. When officers arrived on scene, they located a vehicle that had driven off the roadway, through a fence and crashed into the marsh area at the dead end of Atlantic Avenue and Thimble Shoals Court.

When officers checked the vehicle, they located 19-year-old Nasir Mosley of Newport News deceased from a gunshot wound.

After investigating, it was revealed that multiple shots were fired in the 100 block of Atlantic Avenue. The victim was struck, lost control of his vehicle and drove into the marsh.

Homeowner Chris Jacobson walked 10 On Your Side’s Nick Broadway through the tire tracks visible in the yard.

“They were alone and that was their last moment,” Jacobson said. “But it just doesn’t happen in this area. So it is kind of something new, but it just goes to show it can happen anywhere, you know, no matter where you live. It could happen anywhere.”

Police said Mosely was shot around 10:30 p.m. and was not found until just after midnight.

“They were alone for two hours,” Jacobson said. “Who knows how long it took, But they were alone when they died out there in the marsh. That, that’s disturbing, you know. But it’s more disturbing for the family. I pray for their family.”

Jacobson said this was not the first time he has dealt with crime while living on Atlantic Avenue, saying earlier in the year, someone stole his truck and used it for drug trafficking.

“Was returned from North Carolina, so working on that,” Jacobson said. “Got to repair the fence now.”

The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident remain under investigation by members of the Hampton Police Major Crimes Unit.
