Lewisport awarded $8M Grant toward Water Plant
The City of the Lewisport has been working on a Regionalized Water Plant for Hancock County, as reported in The Clarion, and were awarded $8M toward that $15M project. At the monthly meeting last Thursday, June 20th, the Council approved for Lewisport Mayor Chad Gregory to execute any documents to proceed on for that funding.
Clarion Owner/Editor Donn Wimmer Passes Away
Legendary Hancock County businessman Donn Wimmer has passed away. Wimmer died Monday at the age of 89. For the past 65 years, Donn has served as Editor of the Hancock Clarion. He was an accomplished pilot, which he used in his photography business, as well as taking wedding photos. He and his late wife Juanita made Hawesville their home shortly after getting married in 1951. Wimmer was instrumental in getting an airport built in Hancock County, and his historical knowledge was unmatched. He served in numerous capacities in community efforts. Visitation for Wimmer will be Thursday from 3:30 to 7, and Friday morning from 9 to 11 at Hawesville Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Serenity Hills.
