GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Police say an elderly Upper Peninsula man who was run over by an all-terrain vehicle while putting up a political sign has been released from the hospital.

The 80-year-old man was released Wednesday evening and is now recovering at home, according to the Hancock Police Department.

He was taken to the hospital in critical condition Sunday, according to the police department. Investigators said as the 80-year-old man was posting a political sign in his yard in Hancock, the driver of an ATV — “allegedly with intention to do harm” — drove into the yard and ran the man over.

The Hancock Police Department said it believed the driver of the ATV was also involved in two incidents of vehicle vandalism on Sunday. These cases, too, seemed to be politically motivated, police said.

“The subject appeared to target both Trump and Law Enforcement supporters,” police wrote in an earlier release .

Investigators said the suspect, a 22-year-old Quincy Township man, took his own life.
