On Friday, Oct. 4, Hanover High School will be hosting its homecoming parade, which will close several roads around 6 p.m., a release said.

The parade will affect the first and 100 blocks of East Hanover Street, Orchard Street, the 100 block of McAllister Street, the 500 block of McAllister Street, and alleyways. Portions of those roads will be closed to traffic as the parade passes through, according to the release.

    Parking will not be restricted.

Closures should start around 6 p.m. and continue for around 45 minutes, the release said.

    Half-marathon, 5K supports cancer survivors

Runners will be hitting the streets of Hanover this weekend, as they take part in the annual Snack Town Run Fest, and closures will come along with the race.

The race benefits the YMCA's Livestrong Program, a support group for adult cancer survivors, said Mary Wells, the Community Wellness and Engagement Director for the Hanover YMCA.

The event will feature a 5k, half-marathon and kids race, along with live music and a beer garden featuring local breweries following the race.

Traffic will be limited on some roads around Hanover Borough and Penn Township, and parking will be restricted along several others, according to a release by Hanover police.

The run, which starts at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, Oct. 5, begins and ends at the North Hanover YMCA, on the 500 block of George Street in Hanover.

The route for the half-marathon, which sprawls across Hanover Borough and Penn Township, covers the following streets:

    In Hanover Borough:

    • George Street, Ridge Avenue, Wilson Avenue, Moul Avenue, Fame Avenue, East Walnut Street, Grant Drive, Washington Avenue, and Broadway

    In Penn Township:

    • Flickinger Road, Hershey Heights Road, Broadway, Youngs Road, Moulstown Road, Gitts Run Road, Karen Lane, Wilson Avenue, Old Ridge Road, and Ridge Avenue

Parking restrictions will begin at 7 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 and will be active until around 11:30 a.m. that day.

Parking restrictions will be enacted on the east side of Moul Avenue, from Ridge Avenue to Grant Drive, and on the west side of Moul Avenue, from Grant Drive to Fame Avenue, the release said.

During the race, Flagger Force will be controlling traffic around the course to help temporarily close or restrict traffic as runners race through the course.

Hanover police suggest that "motorists use alternate routes and that residents in the area plan their arrival and departure around the time of the event."

Runners interested in taking part in the half-marathon or 5K can register all the way up 7:15 a.m. on Saturday Oct. 5, with prices increasing after midnight that morning. Online registration is available at the race's website.
