BJ's Wholesale Club to open in Morris County. Here's where and when

New Jersey’s 25th BJ’s Wholesale Club will open in Hanover in Morris County in early 2025, the membership-based warehouse club store announced this week.

The BJ’s will be part of the 23-acre “Hanover Towne Center” planned for Route 10 in the Whippany section of Hanover, according to JerseyDigs.

Plans call for a 161,581-square-foot “big box discount club with a fueling center and 60 townhome units,” according to June 2021 minutes from the Morris County Planning Board.

BJ’s previously announced its intention in 2017 to open a store elsewhere in Hanover, but the plans never materialized.

Another BJ’s is slated to open in North Carolina early next year, the June 25 announcement reads.

“We are excited to deliver the unbeatable value our membership offers to even more families in New Jersey and North Carolina,” said Bill Werner, an executive vice president at BJ’s.

“As we continue to expand our footprint along the East Coast and beyond, we look forward to helping more families save.”

    A budget-friendly alternative amid inflation

Warehouse clubs — like BJ’s, Costco and Sam’s Club — often carry yearly membership fees in order to purchase everything from groceries to clothing or Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog.

But despite those fees, “many consumers like the lower prices and the savings available from buying in bulk,” said analyst Neil Saunders, managing director for retail at Global Data.

“This has become more important during a time of heavy inflation for essential goods,” he said.
