Rockford-area SNAP recipients may qualify for food replacement
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Help may be available for some people in the stateline who had to throw out food due to widespread power outages following severe storms. The Winnebago County Emergency Management Agency says Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP recipients who experienced power outages lasting longer than four hours can request food replacements within 10 days of the event. According to the Illinois Department of Human Services, food bought with SNAP benefits may also be replaced if it was destroyed in a fire, flood, tornado or other devastating event.

TOWN OF OREGON, Wis. (WMTV) - Multiple people were arrested in the town of Oregon early Friday morning after a disturbance, Dane County Sheriff’s Office said. Following the recent closure of East Johnson Family Restaurant, a new breakfast-and-taco spot intends to open in Tenney-Lapham by mid-August. El Rancho Breakfast and Tacos, owned by José Torres and his son, Gerardo Florencio-Reyes, will serve scratch-made pancakes, French toast and omelets in the mornings. For lunch and dinner, the menu will resemble that of El Rancho Mexican Grill on Park Street: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos and more.

UW Health shares sarcoma risk factors
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - July is Sarcoma Awareness Month and UW Health shares what sarcoma is, the signs to look for, who is most commonly diagnosed and how it is treated. Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that appears in in two forms: the first being bone sarcoma and the second soft tissues sarcoma which can appear in muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons and the lining of the joints. UW Health says around 13,500 cases of soft tissue sarcoma are expected to be diagnosed in the US in 2024. While a rare cancer in adults, between 1,500 and 1,700 children are diagnosed each year throughout the nation.
