New Orleans City Council passes guaranteed pay rate for musicians playing city-funded events
New Orleans City Council on Thursday passed legislation setting a guaranteed minimum pay rate for musicians who play city-funded events. The new rule sets a base pay of $200 per musician, per hour, for performers playing events where they would be compensated with public funds, like parties thrown by the New Orleans Recreation Development Commission, concerts hosted by the Office of Cultural Economy, official dignitary visits and bands booked to play the airport.
