SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The Select Board has approved the appointment of Karen Reddersen as the next town manager. Her contract is for three years. The decision was unanimous and followed an executive session held by the board on Tuesday.
Community rallies for Seawall Road
SOUTHWEST HARBOR — The community rallied as five local contractors begin the much-anticipated repairs on Seawall Road, which had been closed since March due to storm damage. These contractors are collectively donating more than $100,000 worth of equipment, labor and supplies to the cause and hope to complete the work in short order, as the weather allows.

Mount Desert Summer Chorale to perform August 2-3
BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Summer Chorale will present its annual concerts on August 2 at Ellsworth High School and on August 3 at St. Saviour’s Church in Bar Harbor. The program, titled “Consolation and Promise,” presents the Requiem by Gabriel Fauré and the Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., with a pre-concert talk by conductor David Schildkret at 7 p.m.
Maine politicians demand action in response to Army Reserve's report on Lewiston gunman
Following the release of the U.S. Army Reserve's investigation into the Lewiston shooter, Maine's political leaders are calling on the Department of Defense to make changes. “While we cannot undo this tragedy, we can do our best to learn from past errors," the Delegation wrote in a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. "We urge you to implement the recommendations from the AR 15-6 and Inspector General reviews immediately, and your office should carefully assess which recommendations should be implemented across the entire force."
