All safe in river rescue
The Hardin County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting kayakers and inner tubers that had overturned in the Iowa River south of Steamboat Rock in the vicinity of UU Ave. and 215th St. at approximately 3:09 p.m. Wednesday. Public safety was immediately dispatched and upon arrival, located two of the kayakers who were then pulled from the river. An additional five individuals were reported further up river. They were located still in their floating devices and made it safely off the river.

TRAILS Inc. raised more than $2M in three weeks
Marshalltown and Marshall County business, local governments and residents did it again in meeting a fundraising challenge. Over the past 3 ½ weeks, TRAILS, Inc. officials raised $2.1 million in required matching funds for a federal grant application for the 34-mile Iowa River’s Edge Trail (IRET) — a proposed multi-purpose recreational trail for bicyclists, birdwatchers, canoers, hunters, hikers and more from Marshalltown to Steamboat Rock in Hardin County.

Board members in attendance were Lance Gran- zow, BJ Hoffman, and Renee McClellan. McClellan moved and Hoffman seconded the motion to approve the agenda. All Ayes. Motion carried. Summer hasn’t started and already 12 state park lakes advise ‘no swimming’
(Radio Iowa) – The state says swimming is not advised at Pine Lake State Park in Hardin County due to high E-coli levels, while two public beaches at Storm Lake in Buena Vista County also exceed the state’s advisory threshold for the bacteria. That makes a total of 12 state park beach advisories issued so far this year. Daniel Kendall, the Iowa D-N-R’s lake and beach monitoring coordinator, says people should enjoy Iowa’s lakes and rivers, but he strongly recommends wearing life jackets.

Saturday the schedule includes a 5K, parade and inflatables. Entertainment includes Neil Hewitt, DJ Fisher, Luke Thomas and fire performers.

There is a new way to become the Hardin County Fair Queen this year, and it doesn’t involve being voted queen of one of the county’s annual celebrations. Jordan Hobson and Natalie Mosch are the committee who decided it was time to make a change.
