Envigo, an Indiana-based Beagle-breeding company for research purposes and one of the largest suppliers of laboratory animals in the United States, pled guilty to violating the federal Animal Welfare Act (AWA) by neglecting thousands of dogs at its breeding facility in Cumberland, Virginia. The company will be paying a fine of more than $35 million, representing the largest-ever fine in an animal welfare case, according to a news release.1.

City of Virginia Beach sues insulin makers over pricing
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — The City of Virginia Beach says it is suing insulin makers for insulin pricing. In a statement to 13News Now, a city spokesperson said it provides "critical" health services for over 450,000 residents and maintains a self-insured health plan. The spokesperson said it cost the City over $9 million to provide diabetes medications to its more than 5,900 health plan subscribers and their dependents between 2018 and 2022.
