RAGBRAI LI begins in southwest Iowa in pleasant summer conditions
GLENWOOD, Iowa — The Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa is now underway, as the 51st installment began in Glenwood along the Missouri River Sunday morning. The 7-day RAGBRAI will take riders on a southerly route across Iowa, making overnight stops in Red Oak, Atlantic, Winterset, Knoxville, Ottumwa, and Mt. Pleasant before arriving in Burlington Saturday to dip their tires in the Mississippi River.

Iowa National Guard unit will return 150 soldiers back from Middle East deployment
On Friday, the Des Moines Airbase hosted a special “welcome home” ceremony for a group of National Guard soldiers returning from a year-long deployment in the Middle East. Fatal motorcycle-truck collision in Pottawattamie County
(Council Bluffs) -- One person was killed in a motorcycle-truck accident in Council Bluffs Saturday afternoon. Council Bluffs Police say the accident occurred at the intersection of South 17th Street and 2nd Avenue shortly after 3 p.m. Authorities say a motorcycle struck the passenger side of a truck at that location. The motorcyclist was taken to Nebraska Medicine where he later died of his injuries.
