Two injured in crash on K-254
A woman and child from Wichita were injured late Monday night in a one-vehicle crash on K-254. The Kansas Highway Patrol said a minivan was going east on K-254 around 10 p.m. when the driver braked too hard and went out of control while trying to make a turn to go south on 143rd Street East. The van went off the road and into a ditch where it struck an embankment.

Missouri woman arrested on suspected drug distribution in Osage County
A Missouri woman was arrested on suspected drug distribution charges in Osage County on Monday. Sheriff Chris Wells says the arrest of 37-year-old Kyra Merriman of Kansas City developed after an alleged traffic infraction. An Osage County K-9 unit stopped Merriman at US Highway 75 and 189th Road, about five miles north of Lyndon, and allegedly found illegal narcotics.

Wichita Man Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison for Animal Cruelty
A Wichita man convicted of animal cruelty is sentenced to more than a decade in prison. 31-year-old Logan Cavender was sentenced following a no contest plea to 10 counts of animal cruelty stemming from the discovery of 10 dismembered cats found in rural Sedgwick County in 2022. He also pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges of stalking and breach of privacy related to other crimes discovered during the animal cruelty investigation. The judge in the case sentenced Cavender to the maximum penalty for each charge, calling him a threat to public safety.
Missouri woman arrested for alleged DUI after crash
Police in Hays, Kansas, reported witnessing an allegedly intoxicated driver traveling in the wrong direction before colliding with a parked vehicle. At about 10:23 p.m. Saturday, officers observed a black sedan traveling southbound in the opposite direction on a one-way street at the 800 block of Ash St., according to Hays Police Chief Don Scheibler.
