Binghamton Deli Ordered Closed by City Just After Opening
A business that set up shop at the former site of a Binghamton Subway restaurant was open for a short time before it was directed by a code enforcement officer to close. A Johnson City man had worked for months to renovate the building at Conklin and Tompkins streets to get the place ready. The site had been vacant since the Subway shop closed suddenly about three years ago.
Binghamton May OK Marijuana-Growing in Commercial Building
A cannabis cultivation operation is being planned for a site just outside downtown Binghamton. Developer Eric Rundels wants to grow marijuana in an 11,000-square-foot building at 225 Chenango Street. Major storm, possible tornado, leaves Rome tattered; thousands left without power
Major thunderstorms ripped through Rome Tuesday afternoon, wreaking havoc on the downtown area, destroying historic buildings and landmarks, leaving more than 15,000 people without power, and forever changing Rome’s skyline. Though there is no official word yet, many officials believe much of the damage was done by a tornado that formed during the storm. More than 10k people without power in Rome, neighbors describe area as 'war zone'
ROME, N.Y. — Update:. As of early Wednesday morning, there are still no reports of injuries to people in the City of Rome following a strong storm on Tuesday, July 16. National grid reports more than 10,000 customers are without power in Rome alone. The number across Oneida County sits at above 20,000 as of Wednesday morning.

Update 6:14pm: Governor Hochul says she has deployed the NYS Police and other agencies to help in Oneida County. As the heat index rose and the potential for storms grew, a tornado has been confirmed in Rome, NY - just north of Utica. Photos from the scene show a church with its roof and steeple torn off, numerous downed trees and power lines, overturned vehicles - even a B-52 bomber on display at the Air Force base was moved by the strong winds.

‘Hamilton’ musical returning to Syracuse: Don’t throw away your shot
Don’t throw away your shot to see one of the biggest musicals of the 21st century. “Hamilton” is returning to Syracuse in fall 2025 as an add-on to the M&T Bank Broadway in Syracuse’s 2025-2026 season, Famous Artists announced Tuesday. Syracuse hasn’t yet tried collecting $23K in unpaid rent from evicted water worker
Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse has not acted to recover more than $23,000 in unpaid rent from a city water department employee that it evicted a year ago. In July 2023, Syracuse took employee Christopher Catalano to court because he hadn’t paid his $650 monthly rent since early 2021 on a city-owned house at the Westcott Reservoir, just past the border in the town of Geddes.
Thousands Still Without Power After Monday's Storm
Thousands of people in the Southern Tier are still without power after a storm came through the Binghamton area Monday night. According to the NYSEG website, as of 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, 1,481 people were still in the dark in Broome County. Chenango County is right behind with 1,454 people without power.

Six people boating in an Upstate New York River were injured when multiple boats overturned and saved miles away. On Tuesday, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) confirmed in its " DEC Forest Rangers - Week in Review" that Forest Ranger saved six people from a river.
